UNR Agro Allied Ltd: Harnessing Nigeria’s Ginger Potential for Global Markets

Welcome to UNR Agro Allied Ltd, where we are at the forefront of harnessing Nigeria’s significant potential in ginger production. Nigeria, recognized as the largest ginger producer in Africa and the second largest in the world, contributes about 16.9% to global ginger production. Despite its vast production, Nigeria only contributes 3.5% to global ginger exports, indicating a massive potential for growth in the export market.

Quality and Quantity of Nigerian Ginger

Nigerian ginger, known for its strong aroma, pungency, and high levels of oleoresin oil, is rated among the best globally. Our annual production stands at approximately 734,295 metric tons, dominating 86% of the total ginger production in Africa. The main ginger-producing zones in Nigeria are Kaduna state and, to a lesser extent, Nasarawa, Niger, Gombe, Bauchi, and Benue. With a focus on quality improvement and meeting EU market requirements, Nigerian ginger holds significant potential for expansion in both domestic and international markets.

Challenges and Opportunities in Ginger Production

The Nigerian ginger sector faces challenges including low yields, high post-harvest losses, and a lack of technology and infrastructure for processing and improving product quality. However, these challenges present investment opportunities, particularly in enhancing ginger yields, processing, and increasing export market share. The demand for Nigerian ginger is high, with the potential to meet twice the current production levels, emphasizing the need for increased production, especially for export.

UNR Agro Allied Ltd’s Role in the Ginger Value Chain

At UNR Agro Allied Ltd, we are committed to tapping into this underutilized potential. Our focus is on supporting the entire value chain from production to export, ensuring quality standards, and maximizing the export potential of Nigerian ginger. With a significant portion of Nigerian ginger still being exported in raw form, we see an opportunity to add value through processing, thereby increasing the profitability and global competitiveness of Nigerian ginger.

Join Us in Promoting Nigerian Ginger

We invite partners, investors, and stakeholders to join us in this venture as we aim to turn Nigerian ginger into a key driver of non-oil export revenue and a major contributor to the Nigerian economy. With rising global health consciousness and the growing popularity of ginger in various lifestyle dishes, drinks, and food supplements, the time is ripe to invest in Nigeria’s ginger sector.
